Health & Nutrition

Ending homelessness isn’t as simple as providing shelter and housing. La Casa Norte provides outreach and support services to address overlapping issues, including food insecurity and limited access to healthcare.

  • Public Health Ambassadors

La Casa Norte’s Public Health Ambassadors is a youth impact program that works to curb health inequities in Chicago. We aligned with the Chicago mayor’s “treatment not trauma” approach to address homelessness and violence in the city. We recognize that homelessness and violence are public health issues that require prevention, intervention, and healing strategies. We engage and empower black and brown youth, ages 16 through 24, to become agents of change in their own communities by addressing issues to reduce homelessness, violence, health inequalities, and promote social justice and civic participation. The Public Health Ambassadors earn a stipend for participating in leadership training and for their advocacy work in their neighborhoods. The Youth Ambassador program is based at our office at 2523 W. 47th Street.
